BRIGHTON STREET RESERVE

Public BBQ

Brighton Street Reserve embodies that quintessentially inner-west dilemma: a fantastic community space caught between competing uses. The basketball court works brilliantly, though early morning or late-evening games test neighbourly patience. The playground equipment, while showing its age, still entertains the kids adequately enough. What makes this place special is its role as the area's only fully fenced space, turning it into an unofficial off-leash haven for well-behaved dogs when toddlers aren't about. The facilities cover the basics - benches for parents, barbecue for gatherings, bins and poo bags for responsible dog owners. Unfortunately, no toilets, and the playground could use a proper clean. The community feel is genuine, with friendly locals who understand the unspoken rules of sharing space. During good weather, it transforms into a pleasant afternoon retreat with that communal atmosphere that makes inner Sydney's dense living worthwhile.
